Barry O’Brien is the founder and president of O’Brien Asset Management LLC (OAM), a fee-only financial planning and wealth management firm located in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. With more than two decades of Wall Street experience coupled with Certified Financial Planner® credentials, Barry is uniquely qualified to help clients achieve their financial goals.
Prior to starting OAM, Barry was the head zero-coupon trader on the U.S. Treasury bond desk at Mizuho Securities from 1996 to 2004. In that position, he managed a $500 million+ bond portfolio and made markets for institutional bond customers. He arrived at that position after four years at HSBC, where he was instrumental in developing a zero-coupon trading desk from scratch. His unique perspective of being “in the trenches” during the different phases of the market cycle allows Barry to see the big picture, and to be cognizant of how fast the markets can move and how fast adjustments may have to be made.
A graduate of Boston College, Barry lives in Eliot, Maine with his wife, Lisa, and three school-aged children. He is a graduate of Leadership Seacoast, an active member of the South Berwick/Eliot Rotary Club, a board member and coach in Marshwood Youth Lacrosse, and a mentor in MSAD 35’s H.A.W.K. program.
